MacKid of the Week!

October 19, 2014

Katie Baumgartner is our MacKid of the Week!  Katie is a very creative 4th grade student at St. James and was nominated by her teacher, Kris Ripke.  She has an enthusiasm for learning new things and likes to be busy.  When the class learned to make shape poems, she asked for special paper and made colorful poems in the shapes of flowers, trees, and swirling water.  Her enthusiasm for the project is contagious to the students around her, who in turn, began to write poems for their own enjoyment.  When her classroom became a Native American village for a week, Katie became a "villager” bringing seeds, shells, furs and other items to share and trade with the class.  She played a “lead role” dressed in a beautiful costume each day as the class learned about Native American culture.  She shares her quest for knowledge with her friends, and has had several children hovering around books with her looking for ideas.  She is a joy to have as a student and a good friend to others because she shares her knowledge as well as the items she happens to be “fiddling” with.  Katie’s joy for learning is very refreshing!  Her enthusiasm, joyfulness, and love for learning is what makes Katie our MacKid of the Week!

If you would like to nominate a child or group of children that have gone above and beyond, please share with
