Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette is one of the oldest continuously active arts organizations in Indiana,
founded in 1931. The importance of community theatre can be measured by a slew of statistics and
years of research. Here are some highlights:
- Academic Performance - Students engaged in the arts have higher GPA’s, standardized test scores, and
college-going rates as well as lower dropout rates. These academic benefits are reaped by students
across all socio-economic statuses.
- Mental Health - Theatre is an effective way to reduce depression and anxiety while increasing life
satisfaction. Just 30 minutes of active arts activities daily can combat the ill effects of isolation and
loneliness.
- Job Market - Creativity is among the top five applied skills sought by business leaders- with 72% saying
creativity is of “high importance” when hiring.
Civic Theatre has a thriving education department offering both youth and adult classes. For more
