Your infant or toddler, through 35 months of age, can receive a developmental screening to determine if any early intervention services are needed.
First Steps may be needed for a child for many different reasons, including; a medical condition or diagnosis, a condition with a high probability of delay (such as genetic disorder, sensory impairment, or severe toxic exposure), and/or a delay in meeting developmental milestones.
After a referral is made, an Assessment Team of therapists will assess and evaluate the child’s development in these areas: cognitive, physical, communication, social-emotional and adaptive. To be eligible for services, the child must show a 25% delay in one area or a 20% delay in two areas.
